Introduction to Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Excel which is more commonly known as Excel is a part of MS Office package from software giant Microsoft.
It can be used on a Windows platform as well as Mac OS
Excel is the most popular spreadsheet program that is being used by majority of the computers around the globe.

Excel is basically an electronic spreadsheet application which can be used in a variety of ways to store data, information and details. Data can also be presented in the manner and order that we may require.
Excel basically comprises of a WORKBOOK as illustrated in the screenshot above.
The workbook is made of CELLS.
Cells are formed by intersection of ROWS and COLUMNS
Information can be filled in the cells by entering desired text or values.

An Excel sheets gives a convenience to input information as per our need.
It gives us the freedom to alter the data as and when required
Sorting can be done as per our requirements.
Graphs can be introduced to give a better visual understanding of the information that has been entered by us.
There is a possibility of various formulae that can be easily inputted and compiled as per one’s needs
Various mathematical calculations are done itself and we can save a lot of time.

Applications of MS Excel for Knowledge Management in our office
Currently we are using Excel 2003 in our office.
Excel is used in a variety of ways in our office be it just compiling of data or information or it could be execution or implementation of the available information or knowledge

Some of the uses of Excel that we are currently following in our office are given below:
We are using Excel for maintaining database of all our clients. The data that we currently compile in excel right now is as follows
Name of the client
Client ID
Client address
Telephone no./Mobile no.
Remarks and details.
We are using Excel for preparing various documents like
Proforma Invoice
Packing Lists
Export documents
Corporate letters etc.
Excel is also used by our accounts department for storing certain data pertaining to accounts and finances of the company
The account department also generates various reports and accounts information like creditors information, daily expense report, Balance sheets etc. in Excel Formats
We are also using Excel to create and compile employee details of our company and various other information related to them so that we can sort out the data quickly as and when we require.
